More than 2,100 post offices nationwide will be able to apply for a special system to lend their immediate living expenses to people who are financially distressed by the new coronavirus.
As of september 9 this month, there have been 184,000 applications for “emergency small funds”, such as raising the amount of loans to 200,000 yen, which is up to double the normal amount, for individuals who have been forced to close due to the new coronavirus.
Applications are currently mainly accepted by mail or bringing documents to the social welfare council of the municipality, but from this month, the office will accept documents at the post office counter of more than 1,000,000.

As a result, the number of points where applications for “emergency small funds” can be applied will more than doubled, and the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare wants to speed up procedures.
In addition, the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare will provide consultation on “housing securing benefits” that local governments pay for rent for up to nine months for people whose income may decrease due to closure or unemployment, and may lose their homes.
