In an effort to prevent the leakage of sensitive information of state-of-the-art technology that can be used by the military, the LDP has submitted a proposal to Chief Cabinet Secretary Kan to ask those who handle such information to be granted qualifications.
Members of the Intellectual Property Strategy Research Committee, including the Chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party’s Amari Tax Research Committee, visited the Prime Minister’s Office on 22 nd and handed the proposal to Chief Cabinet Secretary Kan.

The proposal sought to ensure that japan strengthened cooperation with overseas research institutes in order to maintain science and technology at a state-of-the-art level, but that it would be necessary to consider granting qualifications to those who handle state-of-the-art information, as it requires management to prevent confidential information from being leaked.

In addition, universities and research institutes in Japan should work to strengthen screening for foreign researchers and international students, saying it is important to prevent information leaks.

In response, Mr. Kan said, “In order to do this, we need people, budgets, and organizations. I would like to take a positive approach based on my recommendations.”

Daishiro Yamaki, secretary-general of the Research Council, said, “Technology is attached to people, so access to technology requires some kind of qualification requirement.”
