NTT East has completely completed a facility that can conduct a demonstration experiment of “Local 5G” that uses new high-speed, high-capacity communication standards in small areas, and the interior was released on March 30.

The local 5G is a high-speed, large-capacity communication network that can be used in a limited area such as a building, and radio waves are assigned to companies and local governments.

NTT East acquired a license in April this year, established a facility at the training center in Chofu City, Tokyo, where companies and local governments can conduct demonstration tests of local 5G, and opened the interior of the completely completed facility.

The facility is 340 square meters in size, and on the 30th, companies working on IT in agriculture conducted experiments to control robots.

The robot was equipped with a camera, and it was possible to grasp the growth status of crops by remotely operating from a distance, and the person in charge checked clearer images than conventional communication standards.

Kenichi Watanabe, General Manager of NTT East Business Development Division, said, “Local 5G can be used in a variety of places, including factories as well as primary industries, so we would like to promote the introduction in rural areas and contribute to the revitalization of the local economy.”

In the local 5G, Fujitsu and tokyo have acquired licenses so far and are developing new services.
