In this year’s White Paper on Traffic Safety, the number of people killed in traffic accidents has decreased to less than one-third in the last 30 years, while the number of people aged 75 and over has decreased to less than 10%, so we will take measures such as promoting the spread of safe driving support vehicles.
According to the “White Paper on Traffic Safety” decided by the government at a cabinet meeting on March 31, 3215 people died in traffic accidents in the first year of Reiwa last year, down less than one-third of that of 1989 30 years ago.

On the other hand, for the elderly aged 75 and over, the decrease from 1192 people to 1280 in 1989 was less than 10%.

In light of this situation, the White Paper states that it is necessary to strengthen traffic safety measures for the elderly, and will promote measures such as the introduction of a new licensing system that limits driving to such vehicles and the aim of realizing autonomous driving services in order to secure daily transportation.
