In order to get to know the goodness of cloth masks made from Enshu textiles transmitted to the western part of Shizuoka Prefecture, a vending machine dedicated to masks that can be purchased 24 hours a day was installed in the city of Hamamatsu City.
This initiative was planned by the Council of Hamamatsu City and Enshu Textile Business Operators, and vending machines located near JR Hamamatsu Station were lined up with 18 masks, both for children and adults.
Enshu Textiles has developed in the western part of Shizuoka Prefecture, where cotton has been cultivated since the Edo period, and is characterized by its gentle touch using natural fibers.
The masks sold are for summer made of silk, hemp, etc., and in addition to simple white, some are decorated with colorful patterns and cold processing, and the price is from 600 yen to 1000 yen.
Vending machines will be installed until the end of March next year, and will be warmed and sold during the chilly season.
Kenta Sugiura, chief of Hamamatsu City Industry Promotion Division, said, “It’s easy to buy 24 hours a day while avoiding contact with people, so I want locals and business trips to use it and feel the goodness of Enshu textiles.”
