From 2 p.m., a general meeting of members of both houses of parliament will begin at a hotel in Tokyo to replace the party conference, and soon a vote will be held by members of the Diet and representatives of prefectural associations.
In NHK’s coverage of the situation, Mr. Kan has firmed up more than 70 percent of the Diet’s vote and has already won a majority in local votes.
The results of the diet and local votes will be announced around 3:30 p.m., and Mr. Kan is expected to win a majority overall and be elected as the new president, suppressing Mr. Ishiba and Mr. Kishida.
After that, Mr. Kan will hold a press conference at the party headquarters from 6:00 p.m. to clarify his views on the party’s management policies and the policy issues he will focus on.
Former Secretary General Ishiba:”I want to abandon myself and fight in the future.”
Mr. Ishiba’s camp met in the Diet before the vote was cast, and about 20 members of the Ishiba faction and non-factions gathered.

On that basis, Mr. Kan said, “I think victory is just around the corner. I want to show that I can come out of Akita, jump into the world of politics with no ground or blood, and be prime minister in Japan even if I start from zero.”

Chairman Masanori Kishida “There is a view that can be seen only because I worked hard until the end”
The camp of Mr. Kishida, Chairman of the Political Affairs Research Committee, held a meeting in the hotel before 1 p.m. before the vote was cast, and about 50 people, mainly members of the Kishida faction, attended.
In this statement, Mr. Kishida said, “During the election period, I definitely felt a response, and I myself was able to appeal to the new Kishida Fumio Kissy. I want to act until the last moment until the ballot box closes. There is a scenery that can be seen only because I did my best until the end. I would like to ask for your help until the very end in order to continue the fight.”
