The House of Representatives held an election to nominate the prime minister at the plenary session, and the LDP president, Yoshihide Kan, was nominated as prime minister. After this, President Kan was nominated at the House of Councillors plenary session, and he was elected as the 99th Prime Minister.
In response to the resignation of the Abe Cabinet, elections for prime minister were held at the plenary session of the House of Representatives shortly after 1 p.m.

Representative Edano of the Constitutional Democratic Party votes 134 votes,

Mr. Shinjiro Koizumi of the Liberal Democratic Party has one vote.
President Yoshihide Kan was nominated as prime minister with the support of the Liberal Democratic Party and Komeito.

President Kan was then nominated at the House of Councillors plenary session and elected as the 99th Prime Minister.

In response, President Kan entered the Prime Minister’s Office, met with Mr. Yamaguchi of the Komeito Party, and established the Cabinet Headquarters to form a cabinet immediately.
