In response to China’s active activities in the waters around the Senkaku Islands in Okinawa Prefecture, the Liberal Democratic Party’s Parliamentaors’ Federation of Lawmakers issued a proposal calling on the government to strengthen its response, saying it would “seek to maintain the direction of improvement in relations between the two countries.”
The Liberal Democratic Party’s National Federation of Defense Legislators held a meeting today and confirmed that it will soon submit to the government a proposal that the Self-Defense Forces should strengthen the effectiveness of effective control, including joint drills with the U.S. military in the Nansei Islands, including the Senkaku Islands, in response to China’s active activities in the waters around the Senkaku Islands in Okinawa Prefecture.

In response, a spokesman for China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Liu Wen斌, re-asserted the conventional position that “the island is China’s own territory” and said, “We call on Japan to maintain the direction of improvement of relations between the two countries with actual action.”
