After visiting the Northern Territories from Cape Nosabu in Nemuro City, Hokkaido, Mr. Kono, Minister of State for Okinawa and Northern Affairs, told reporters that he would strengthen awareness-raising activities using SNS in order to make the younger generation interested in territorial issues.
Mr. Kono, Minister of State for Okinawa and Northern Affairs, who is visiting Hokkaido for the first time since taking office, visited the shell island of the Toothmai Archipelago, about 4 kilometers off Cape Nosafu in Nemuro City, and was explained about the history of territorial issues by the person in charge at the museum on the nearby Northern Territories.
After this, Minister Kono told reporters, “The number of young people who are not familiar with the Northern Territories issue is increasing. Since new media such as SNS are also developing, I think we can do many things,” he said, and he indicated his idea of strengthening awareness-raising activities using SNS in order to get younger generations interested in territorial issues.
Minister Kono also indicated that he would prepare to resume the new coronavirus as soon as possible, as this year’s “visa-free exchange” was canceled when former islanders visited the Northern Territories.
