Two high school students who were walking near a pedestrian crossing on a national highway in Okayama City were hit and killed by a passenger car, and police have arrested a 46-year-old man who was driving the car and are investigating the situation in detail.
About 1:30 a.m. on May 5, two men and a woman walking near a pedestrian crossing were hit by a passenger car at a national highway intersection on Aoe 4-chome, Kita-ku, Okayama City.

According to the police, both were second-year high school students in Minami-ku, Okayama City, Yuki Kondo (17) and Ryo Shimizu (16), who were taken to the hospital but were soon confirmed dead.

Police arrested Takayoshi Sato, 46, a company employee in Minami-ku, Okayama City, who was driving the car, on suspicion of negligent driving death.

Sato said, “There is no doubt that he hit a person,” and admitted the charges.
