Consumption Trends Index First Half of October Travel Improves Significantly Joining GoTo to and from Tokyo November 2 at 10:27 AM
In a survey that indexes consumption trends based on credit card usage information, the travel index improved significantly in the first half of last month with the addition of travel to and from Tokyo as a target for Go To Travel, a measure to stimulate tourism demand.
Data analytics company Nowcast and credit card giant JCB have released an index that looks at consumption trends while protecting privacy based on card usage information.
As a result, the index from 1 to 15 last month was minus 12% compared to the second half of January before the spread of the infection.
Compared to minus 8.9% in the second half of September, the decline was larger.
On the other hand, “travel” improved significantly from minus 3.6% in the second half of September and minus 17.1% in the second half of September.
The company that conducted the survey said, “The government’s Go To Travel, a measure to stimulate tourism demand, was largely affected by the addition of travel to and from Tokyo.”
