Mitsubishi Chemical to consolidate functions at three headquarters in Tokyo November 7 at 12:08 p.m. due to the spread of telework

Due to the significant decrease in the number of employees who come to the office due to the spread of telework, Mitsubishi Chemical Co., Ltd., a major chemical manufacturer, has decided to consolidate its headquarters functions in three locations in Tokyo.
In the wake of the spread of the new coronavirus, there is a growing movement to review the way offices are.
Mitsubishi Chemical currently has its headquarters functions distributed across three offices in Marunouchi, Nihonbashi, and Osaki, Tokyo, with a total of 2,000 employees working there.

However, telework has taken hold, and the average rate of coming to work has been around 20% to 30%, and we have decided to consolidate it into Marunouchi’s office in April next year, as we will not return to the situation where all employees come to work as before.

In addition to reducing rent and other costs through the consolidation of offices, the company will introduce free addresses that do not fix employees’ seats in the new office.

Ms. Lemiko Nakata, Managing Director of Mitsubishi Chemical Co., Ltd., said, “We want to make our office a place where innovation is born through consolidation.”

The consolidation of offices is being promoted by major tire manufacturers Bridgestone and the LIXIL Group, a major housing equipment company, and there is a growing movement to review the way offices should be in the wake of the spread of infection.
