Kagawa poultry farm bird flu virus detection 5th case November 15 6:24
Multiple chickens were found dead at a poultry farm in Santoyo City, Kagawa Prefecture, and a highly pathogenic avian influenza virus was detected. This is the fifth case of bird flu virus detected at a poultry farm in Kagawa Prefecture earlier this month, and the prefecture has decided to dispose of about 80,000 chickens from the poultry farm.
According to Kagawa Prefecture, on the 14th, a poultry farm in Santoyo City contacted them to say that there were many dead chickens, and a detailed examination at the prefecture’s Animal Health and Sanitation Center detected the H5 bird flu virus, which is thought to be highly pathogenic.
This is the fifth case of avian influenza virus detected in Kagawa Prefecture earlier this month.
The prefecture has disposed of about 79,000 chickens that have been raised and will spend the next 10 days burying them in the ground.
This poultry farm is located within 10 kilometers of three poultry farms in Santoyo City where the virus was detected on the 5th and 11th of this month, and on the 13th.
The prefecture prohibits the movement of chickens and eggs from poultry farms within a 3-kilometer radius of the poultry farm, and prohibits shipments from poultry farms within a 10-kilometer radius.
