With the system to add a certain amount to the examination fee when a patient without a referral letter visits a large hospital, the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare has decided to make adjustments in the direction of increasing the additional amount currently set at 5000 yen or more by more than 2000 yen.
In order for large hospitals such as university hospitals to specialize in advanced treatment, patients who do not have a referral letter are required to pay more than 5,000 yen on their first visit to the examination fee at the counter.

The Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare proposed an increase of more than 2,000 yen in addition to the examination fee at the Medical Insurance Subcommittee held on July 19 to prevent the concentration of patients in large hospitals that provide advanced treatment and encourage people with mild symptoms to see a “family doctor.”

In addition, we will expand the scope of our services to 666 medical institutions, including hospitals that provide specialized medical care.

The government has decided to make adjustments to compile concrete proposals by the end of the year, with the aim of implementing them again next year and in fiscal 2022.
